Opened on 28th April 1950 with “a colour cartoon(not named), "America’s heritage ”, a Three Stooges short(Punchy Cowpunchers), and “The Nevadian”.
New Screen Tower going up!!
Wow, picky picky. Just a typo. The website has it correct.
The Barco Facebook page says it opened as the “Starvu drive-in” but that’s not quite accurate. The Grand Opening “poster” (or newspaper ad) that I uploaded from OzarksAlive.com shows the name as the Barco Starvue.
The 1952 Theater Catalog lists it as the Barco Starvue. The 1955 Catalog and the 1959 and later IMPAs list it as just the Barco, so that Starvue part must have been dropped soon after opening.
Movies that played there.
“ONE MILLION YEARS B.C.” and the second feature was “THE FASTEST GUITAR ALIVE” with Roy Orbison. I think we all know the lady that starred in the first feature on April 5.Sunday,Monday and Tuesday was “CASINO ROYALE” with Peter Sellers.Other features to follow that week were “IT IS A BIKINI WORLD”,“ROSIE” and"TOUGH NIGHT IN JERICHO".
I have updated the website:

Thanks
Barco is in the process of being saved from closing. The owners are going to be leasing it to the owners of the Plaza Theatre, also in Lamar, and the manager from there will also operate it.
This drive-in shows its age (57 years old) but it still in good condition and still attracts large crowds. It’d be a shame to see this one closed up so I’m glad to see it going to stay open.
