Lakeshore Drive-In

The Lakeshore Drive-In was located in Liverpool, NY. It opened on April 27, 1957 with Audie Murphy in “Walk the Proud Land” & Victor Mature in “Zarak”. The Lakeshore was operated by Carrol’s Development Corporation, CinemaNational, USA Cinemas, then finally Loews Theatres who closed it on September 7, 1989 with Bill Murray in “Ghostbusters II” & Ralph Macchio in “The Karate Kid Part III”.

After closing, the Lakeshore’s long-unused speakers and in-car heaters were moved to the Loews Airport Drive-in (Johnson City, NY) for storage, the Airport didn’t use them either, they had AM Radio sound at the time. The speakers remained in a giant rusting pile under the Airport Drive-In’s screen until that too was demolished a few years later. Eventually the site was cleared for a shopping center, which uses the marque of the drive-in to advertise the stores.

The Lakeshore was one of three (3) drive-ins in the Syracuse NY area owned and operated by the Slotnick family. The other two drive-ins were the DeWitt and the North. The Slotnicks started building hamburger stands under the Carrolls banner and subsequently became Carrolls Development Corp.
