The Bromley closed at the end of a 20-year leasing period permanently on March 30, 1955 with Jimmy Stewart in “The Far Country.” It was used for live events and dancing thereafter.

I went by it today. A business, retail perhaps, is going inside. Workers were on the roof doing something.

You can still see the Bingo sign on Google. Status should be closed.

Here is an item from Boxoffice magazine, February 1955:

Harold Eskin is not going to operate the Bromley after April, and the theater is scheduled for conversion to a dance hall.

Here is a 5/23/52 photo from the same source as the one on 1/14/08. The photo was mistakenly placed on the Byrd Theater page.

The building is empty once again and for rent. A BINGO business was the last to operate out of the theater. rg

Here is an expanded view of Chuck’s thumbnail of 4/2/05, from the PAB site. The photo is from the Irvin Glazer collection:

I think it was a medical center for awhile. Now, it is a Bingo hall, and the marquee says bingo. I went inside, but the ceilings had been lowered, so there was very little to see of interest.

Yes, the building survives. You can see the exterior of the auditorium from outside.
