The Avalon Cinema was a small art cinema that opened in September of 1997. It seated a little over 100 people. It had a small screen measuring 12 ft by 22 ft. The auditorium was equipped with Dolby Surround Sound. The theatre featured a bargain night every Wednesday with admission $4.50 to all. I got to go inside this cinema week-before-last, and meet the current owner, who very graciously showed me around the place and hung out for conversation about area theatres.

This cinema is worth attending just for the wildly creative and eclectic decor alone. Among the accoutrements, the metal channel letters from the marquee of the STATE Theatre in Corvallis, now demolished.

I believe the Avalon closed in 2007. I believe part of the reason is the OLCC denied their liquor license.

@SteveFratelli: In point of fact, we weren’t denied a liquor license. There was a regulatory shift at the time that we could not adhere to. However, it is true that we closed the Avalon in 2007, with our patrons used to attending our newer theater: Darkside Cinema.

Demolished and replaced by high-end condos.
