The Fantasyland Theater was located in Disneyland’s Fantasyland. It was a regular style movie theater that presented cartoons, shorts such as “Winnie the Pooh” featurettes and special screenings. It originally opened in 1955 as the Mickey Mouse Club Theater and the name changed in 1964.
It closed in 1982 for the New Fantasyland project and the space was used for the ride Pinocchio’s Daring Journey. In 1969 I was writing a film review column for my high school newspaper.
I was invited along with other reviewers at other schools to attend a special screening of “The Love Bug” in this theater and then enjoy a day at Disneyland with a guest free of charge. The only payment required was to send them a tearsheet when the review was published.

Not to be confused with the current “Disneyland Theatre” (the live open-air stadium next to It’s A Small World that used to be called “Videopolis”), or with the Main Street Cinema (still open, but was converted long ago from a standard single-screen theatre showing vintage movies into six screens around the room showing 1920s Mickey Mouse shorts).
Thanks DB,interesting.

I wish I could find interior photos of the old Fantasyland Theater or pre-remodel Main Street Cinema.
That this theatre got added to CT is just one more reason why I love this site.
