Whatever’s comfortable for people…that’s what’s important. Imho, stadium-type seating definitely provides a direct view of the movie theatre screen without looking at the backs of people’s heads, plus it’s probably less of a strain on people with neck problems, etc., because they’re not looking up, if one gets the drift.
I like to sit in the middle of the movie theatre, preferably in an aisle seat, or as close to the aisle as possible.
I sit towards the front, about 1/3 of the way from the screen. If I am stuck in a theatre with stadium seating I make sure to sit in the non-stadium part, even if it means being too close to the screen.
In a modern stadium house, I sit in the center, and as far up as I can in order to have my head as close to level as possible for the duration of the film. This says more about my middle-aged neck than anything else. I hate to say it, but unless I sit in the balcony, viewing movies in a vintage theatre can cause a sore neck by having to look a little bit upward.

That study is full of beans! I sit in the spot that gives me the best view of the screen!
