Did they put regular seats back?

RPX just opened with Mission Impossible. New seating capacity is 359 seats. Very disappointed, the removed the recliners, seating increased by 192 seats. Since AMC is more popular with Dolby Cinema and Prime, most patrons attend them over RPX Atmos in the pass.

The increase seating doesn’t make sense since it’s competitor the AMC Empire 25 had Dolby Cinema with Atmos, Prime and IMAX Laser, most patrons go to AMC over RPX. Personally, I’ll do RPX at E-Walk because it has Atmos Sound.

Every time I went there with the recliners in RPX, the attendance was always more across the street. If RPX was the only location in the area, then more seats would make sense.

As of Mid-June 2023, construction has indeed resumed. Now, early in early July 2023, its been a slow progression, but its getting there.

Great news for bankrupt Cineworld. I think this was a smart move. AMC has too many screens for today’s market and desperately need some cleaning up across the street.

“Regal E-Walk is currently undergoing renovation, so reaching a new agreement with DTA Leasehold Owner, LLC will allow this transformative work to be completed,” said Mooky Greidinger, CEO of Cineworld, parent company of Regal. “When interior renovations to the theatre have finished, Regal E-Walk will be one of New York’s top movie houses, including the largest 4DX auditorium in the world.”

Manhattan residents and tourists can continue to visit the E-Walk location to watch a movie at one of the world’s great cultural and entertainment intersections. Located on 42nd Street at 8th Avenue, the entrance to this Regal theatre can easily be found beneath its iconic 60' high digital marquee.

Regal E-Walk features luxury recliners along with two premium format auditoriums. The 4DX theatrical experience immerses moviegoers with moving seats and environmental effects. Once the refurbishments are complete, Regal E-Walk will be home to the world’s largest 4DX auditorium. The renovated theatre will also offer the Regal Premium Experience (RPX), delivering movies the way filmmakers intended with sharp laser projected visuals, clear Dolby Atmos surround sound and premium theatre seating.

This theatre is one of many NYC locations for moviegoers to take advantage of Regal Unlimited, which allows subscribers to watch as many movies as they want, whenever and wherever they want. The Regal Unlimited subscription pass is exclusively available on the Regal mobile app where moviegoers can choose from three different plans based on theatre location. currently it’s on hold with the construction

Mikeoaklandpark

So what is all the construction they are doing?

ridethectrain
ridethectrain on April 12, 2023 at 6:15 pm

Just uploaded the pictures of both level construction progress, Screen 8 thru 13 looks almost finish, don’t know if the RPX and new 4DX is complete. Level 1 screens 1 thru 7, a workzone and the restrooms by theatre 7 closed, have to walk down the hallway to screen 1 for the restroom.

The manager said the contractors are supposed to come back, but I hope the location work gets fully done and stays open. This location has more comfortable seats then the Empire. The Empire I would only go to IMAX, DOLBY or PRIME preferably.

@Mikeoaklandpark. The section currently closed off where RPX is. A lot of level 2 is done, but the contractor are finishing another location that not closing. The manager said there coming back to finish the work. Until RPX opens, I’m still not optimistic after Regal closed Fenway which had reclines installed 5 years ago. I’ll post photos later tonight when I get home

So what are they doing in the RPX theater?

ridethectrain
ridethectrain on March 18, 2023 at 7:49 am

I don’t think this financial the renovations, this location going to close. The last picture I saw in RPX was No Time To Die

Joshua Bilmes
Joshua Bilmes on March 17, 2023 at 1:00 pm

they still haven’t finished the RPX renovation. Considering how across the street everyone goes first to buy IMAX, Prime and Dolby tickets at the Empire, why don’t they want to finish their RPX renovation? They haven’t been selling 13 screens not in months but in years. I just clicked every Regal location in New Jersey as a decent sample size, and all of them have showings for dates after March 30. This is as close to going week by week as you can get.

They were NOT out there the past two days. All Regal other theaters were showing updated listings except this one for some odd reason.

Yup, Fandango has showtimes listed through the end of the March.

Perhaps Joshua needs to re-read that childhood classic “The Boy Who Cried Wolf”

Moviefan333
Moviefan333 on March 16, 2023 at 6:54 am

Movies are now listed for Friday and beyond obviously they just needed to update the application regal did the feeder is still open doesn’t look like it’ll be closing at least not for now

m00se1111
m00se1111 on March 15, 2023 at 9:02 am

It’s the same on Fandango. So maybe showtimes are still being determined.

I checked earlier today and 17th had only later evening showings for the bigger releases, but now it’s an entire day for all movies there

Guess later tonight or tomorrow will be the most telling.

Moviefan333
Moviefan333 on March 15, 2023 at 8:20 am

Regals application for the theater at 42nd St., doesn’t have any times past this Thursday yet. That seems strange as every other regal has showtimes for Friday. Maybe they need to update the app for that location

Joshua Bilmes
Joshua Bilmes on March 14, 2023 at 9:04 pm

There are no showtimes on sale after March 16. There were showtimes on sale for later dates just a few days ago. So…

“There was a report today that we will be closing more theaters this year 2023. ”

where is this report in case some of us might wanna check it out?

Moviefan333
Moviefan333 on January 5, 2023 at 2:46 pm

I think that this was taken off the list of theaters under Cinemark/regal that were to be closing. So I think this location will definitely stay open unless they decide against keeping it open again. There was a report today that we will be closing more theaters this year 2023. They have already closed 23 of their locations. That’s 5% out of 468.Undoubtably more to close

Mikeoaklandpark
Mikeoaklandpark on January 5, 2023 at 1:53 pm

What makes everyone think this theater is closing? For years it was reported that the Cinema 1,2,3 3rd Ave was closing and here it is 20 years later and it’s still open

ridethectrain

Just because they have movies schedule until February, the location can still close earlier.

Joshua Bilmes

A Christmas miracle! Showtimes now up thru mid February.

Joshua Bilmes
Joshua Bilmes on December 24, 2022 at 10:34 pm

I was incorrect about December 29.

But, the RPX that has been under renovation for forever still hasn’t reopened. There is the court filing which allows for Regal to reject the lease as of January 15, https://www.reddit.com/r/RegalUnlimited/comments/yov0hh/new_list_of_leases_to_be_rejected_in_bankruptcy/ and as of now this is the only Regal in NYC not selling tickets after January 12. The event in March is no longer on sale.

There are some locations on that list where new lease terms must have been agreed. The Ballston Common and the Lincolnshire are on the PDF but have tickets on sale well into 2023. But the E-Walk is on that list, and ain’t got seats on sale after January 12. And 22 months since NYC movie houses reopened, box office is still way way down, and yet not a single Manhattan multiplex is going to be a casualty? There are 25 screens across the street, another dozen on 34th Street. If there is to be a casualty…

But I was wrong about Dec. 29, and who knows, maybe the landlord will reduce the rent by 75% or something in the next couple weeks.
