Regal Union Square Stadium 17 is no longer advertising the fact they have a RPX Screen on their website. They are advertising this theatre as Regal Union Square ScreenX & 4DX.
The renovations removed a grand interior staircase between the two levels. The cafe is where the box office once was, and now there is just one staffed station in the corner. The screens of the two main screens are in the same place the screens always were, and the renovations extend the balconies down with full stadium seating, which is why the former ”downstairs” screens are so small. They occupy only the bits of space beneath the original balconies. The large screens were always relatively small compared to the large screens at other big Manhattan multiplexes, so if these have all the same large screen and PLF movies as all the other multiplexes, there is no compelling reason to come here from outside the neighborhood. In auditorium 12 now and the seat has lots of leg room and is comfy enough but has no recline to speak of. The AMCs to the north and south have better seats and screens that are as good or better as any here, so there’s barely a reason to come here from inside the neighborhood. This was shinier and newer when it opened, but the AMC upgrades improved dowdy sloped floor multiplexes while this one, with its stadium seating only in the back rows with lots of flat screens…
@ridethectrain Theater 11 is indeed a flat screen. Only scope screens are theaters 3, 14, 15 and 16.
OK, I recounted now that they’re fully open again and I get 2057 seats (not including wheelchair spaces). I suppose it’s possible there are some slight errors and it’s the 2068 that @ridethectrain claims.

@zoetmb look at the pictures site and see the demos. Since your reviewing the small theatres, why don’t post some photos of the screens. When I visit movie theatres, I take photos of the different auditoriums.
Please update total seats is 2068, @zoetmb you counting the seats with social distancing. Theatre 4 is 21 and theatre 5 is 23. You must be counting from Regal app which has every other row closed. Look at fandango.com, they show all rows with the blocked out rows. Secondly, screens 10 thru 17 sold at full capacity prior to covid with full capaciy. Read my March 30 post with the capacity and look at fandango.com and you will see the difference Also, on regal site you see the row letters skip B D F. That means A, C and E are closed off
Since the renovation and the installation of lounge seating, the total seat count (not including wheelchair seats) is down to 1036. It was 3065. Screen #4 is just 11 seats and screen #5 is just 12 seats. Who thought this was a good idea?
It’s too bad if they got rid of masking, particularly if you are seeing a flat film on a scope screen I find bars on the left and right of the screen kinda ugly. But hasn’t been the case with the two movies I’ve seen her post renovation (one scope and one flat), and have been pretty impressed with the lobby and interior redesign (there was special auditorium signage for 4DX and the location when I saw Demon Slayer).

thehorror13. Did you look inside theatre 4, 5 and 9. Like to see photos of those houses. Theatre 17 wasn’t bad. I wish Regal left those 2 balcony screens as is. Since covid-19 haven’t got to Union Square yet, very poor selection of new movies to see
Theater now has 17 screens up from 14. All screens are floating with no masking.

Most auditoriums that are flat are NOT recommended to view scope (widescreen) films. most notably theaters 4, 5, 9, and 12.
Before the renovations and unmasking of the screens. any of the original 14 theaters would have been fine to view either flat or scope movies. Now, do some research BEFORE choosing to see a movie theater. Know if the film you want to see is flat or scope, and which theater it is playing in. Otherwise you will be seeing a movie that is not may be way too small on their very small screens.
I don’t understand why Regal had to destroy the two big houses. Upstairs is fine, but the downstairs theatre 4 (now screen 4 with 21 seats and theatre 5 23 seats. I doubt it recliners, are these two bad screens. Theatre 9, which was the bottom of theatre 8 is 50 seats, the screen must be close. I’m schedule to be 9 to see “Boogie”, after that I’ll give an updated report. Theatre 4 was once a great auditorium, now theatre 13 RPX is probably good, doubt if they added Atmos. Regal only has Atmos in a small percentage of RPX locations.

My guess 13 is similar to 17, I hope to see why old downstairs are so small in size. The renovation work was completed probably last fall/winter during the time the place was closed. I also have photos of 4 and 8 in the photos section. The lobby design is similar to Regal Essex Crossing.
This will be part of the first wave of Regal reopenings in April 2

to crunchocky- thanks for the info. I still think it looks like a pumpkin threw up. as I have said before a colorblind person would have chosen a better color.
Cineworld chose that color when they “re-branded” Regal to the current logo. The color matches the University of Tennessee, Knoxville (also where the Regal headquarters remains).
Keep it up Regal. BTW, Regal’s parent company is rumored to merge with Cineplex of Canada but that might not happen in the near future according to news reports.
Just an update on Union Square, all auditoriums are open except for theatre 4 and theatre 8 (now screen 9) downstairs. Theatres 1 to 8 are only open for late afternoon/evening shows due to construction.

to ridethectrain. since you post frequently here don’t you find the color of the new seats off-putting? as I said it looks like a pumpkin threw up. plus they’re nowhere near as comfy as the new seats at the AMC/Loews 19 St.
Update: Theatre 4 last day will be this Thursday, January 2. No films scheduled in the auditorium after Thursday showing of 1917 and Uncut Gems.
Regal took down the Union Square 14 from the outside marquee and replace it with just Regal. (see the photos section)
According to the theatre managemnt, theatre 17 is slated to be RPX. When I saw Star Wars, it was the only screen upstairs with Blue Lighting, but Regal was in a rush to open the screen, it waiting to convert it to RPX.
Also, theatre 5 4DX, they added 20 more seats to the capacity. They moved the entrance about a few feet to the right.
@jsbreezy Theatre 17 was correct as you said, it almost like screen 8 and 1 at the AMC Empire, full stadium seating. The screen was big, no masking.
Tentatively, going to see 1917 in screen 4 before it closes next year. Unfortunately, I won’t be able to sit in the balcony where I saw most of I my films, including “Enemy Of The State” and “Hurricane”. Out of the screens Regal pick for 1917, screen 4 is the biggest screen and the others are in the smaller houses. Hopefully, screen 9 is good. Did you hear if Union Square is getting RPX, that was a rumor I heard at another Regal location I visited.
