Still surprizing all the local Theatre folks,“STAR WARS” on August 1 1977 is still going strong at this little twin theatre. It is a wonder they never thought to Bicycle the print to the other screen as well.I mean at this time some forgetable Richard Harris movie was playing called “ORCA”.Still on the ad,NO PASSES. I don’t recall WEIS Theatres ever giving alot of passes out,One reason why ABC and Georgia Theatres really never cared about this South Augusta Twin. Our Chain and Georgia theatres always took care of employees at each theatre. Weis would not.SHow times for “STAR WARS” were 2:25,4:30,7:10 and 9:35. Sadly,“ORCA” would leave Weis in three days and turn up at my theatre Columbia 1 and 2 Theatres.Clear on the other side of Augusta, and we didn’t do any business either.Did watch Bo Derek get her leg bit off.

Why on earth didn’t you SAVE that.Plez tell me someone stole it.We have had only one WORLD PREMIERE here “THREE FACES OF EVE” back in the 50’s.But had one of my theatres had a big event like you guys I would have bent over backwards to get a one-sheet signed.

Wow, you got to meet Burt Reynolds. He is one of my favorites. I think I read on a story of yours about “W.W.” playing at your theatre. I have been around plenty of stars some are pricks like COPPERFIELD,he didn’t like the way i paged his mic cord and nice ones like Tom Jones who is real small. And Diana Ross is tiny.they look so big on TV.

Mike We had the World Premier of W.W.and the Dixie Dancekings at the LOEWS CRESCENT Burt Renolds,Chet Akins and many others from the movie there even the CRESCENT itself is in one short scene from the movie. Most of the movie was shot in Nashville and surrounding areas.Church street was closed off between 4th, and 5th. Ave,Kegs Light and Limos the works, this was sometime in 1975.I got to open the limo doors when the guests arrived, I was surprised how short Burt was I am 5,11 and he was much shorter than me.Although we had the premier we did not run this show afterward.

April 5 1975 and the WEIS CINEMA CENTRE is playing “THE REINCARNATION OF PETER PROUD”. and once this film picked up three academy award nominations it hits town again.“ ALICE DOESN’T LIVE HERE ANYMORE” returns to Augusta. It opened first run at NATIONAL HILLS THEATRE,but certainly did not set any box office records.

Toward the end of Burt Lancaster’s great career he was making films that really one wonders about. “TWILIGHT’S LAST GLEAMING” was one such movie he made. And with all the hype it wasn’t Lancaster,

Interesting item, and i don’t know how much money he lost, but theatre owner Albert Weis had a money BACK GUARANTEE on this movie if you didn’t it was the most exciting movie ever made. I could see that offer being a pain the butt refunding money. I can only assume they gave out passes for another movie. My cousin told at this theatre they would refund moviegoers not liking a Movie. WOW!.
