Hi VALENCIA – You should go on a weekday to avoid the masses. I’ve posted before that this is actually a very nice place. Very clean, decent size screens even in the small rooms, good presentation, great popcorn ;–) My only gripe is that they don’t turn the house lights down all the way – it’s way too bright in there – you can read as the movie is going on. Auditorium #1 is the big room.

All the sniping and griping has rendered this thread a very unpleasant place to visit. I’m sure that the brand new theatre is lovely, though.

SAPS comment is very cyrptic. Perhaps he meant in answer to my question that this is the worst “theatre” ever…How does anybody else think? I still won’t go unless I hear something positive about this place. Thanks.

Worst. Thread. Ever.

Not having been down Jamaica Avenue in 27 years, I’d like to know what is the Jamaica Multiplex like? Is it comfortable and clean? Is the climate peaceable and safe to watch films or is plagued by loud, rowdy , mischievous teen agers? Is the popcorn good? If I hear good things I’ll come back for a visit, but if I hear negative things I’ll stay away.

To put it mildly, Charles Van Bibber, YES !

The only light there would come from either a flashlight, laporoscope, colonoscope, or fiber optics.

“A curse without a cause does not alight.”

Your same delusion of omniscience, arrogantly and offensively expressed, yet again, gave you away. Who did you think you were fooling ?

Keep the Ridgewood Folly Theater and your superior knowledge, and put them where … as a gentleman, I can’t tell you, but it’s dark, moist, in the center of your best end, and is as full of feces as you apparently are.

And please, get a life, and some professional help. You most sorely need both !

Curse you PeterK and LM. What was it that gave me away. The other imbeciles here would never have found me out. Your prize shall be the Ridgewood Folly Theatre. I brought it to you but you were too ignorant to accept it. The Ridgewood Folly Theatre was later known as the Grand View Theatre. You are not worthy of my superior knowledge just yet. I bid you ado until we meet again.

“I have located the site of the Ridgewood Folly Theatre RobertR can you say the same” TomScott

I so could care less. I have been blessed to have seen movies in the Rivoli, RKO Cinerama, Loews State, Radio City Music Hall, Criterion, Syosset, Syosset D-150, The Chinese Theatre, The Egyptian, Cinerama Dome and countless others, keep your address.

Other than mine – there has been no comment about the actual theatre. Stop behaving like 12 year old girls y'all! ;–)

It’s the same delusion of omniscience, arrogantly and offensively expressed, all over again.

I agree, playtime is over. Problem is, I think there has to be an awfully big mess here, like the one “CrazyEddie” made about porking the remains of long-dead actresses up in the balcony of the RKO Madison, before the management wades in and cleans it up.

I second that motion, lostmemory. My only caution is to not “feed the troll”, i.e. ; do not empower Tom by throwing words, energy, time, emotion, etc. at him. Yes, br91975, we are all indeed fallible human beings, yet Tom seems to think he is not, and that is the problem.

I think he was on this site about a year ago as “RidgewoodBill”, star of the “Ridgewood Follies” at the theater of the same name.

….and now that the bad movie trailers have been played in this thread in the Jamaica Multiplex, maybe the movie can finally begin, and we can get back to the real reason we all visit this site.

Final comment from me on this (and know that I respect and completely agree with your position, CConnolly; I’m stating my position for clarification’s sake): I’m not taking ANYONE’S side. Calling any other person or people names, attaching labels to others, throwing around insults – it’s all childish and I’d want to believe, as adults, that we’re above such nonsense. As stated previously by other individuals, if incorrect information is posted, a polite revision is all that’s required – nothing more, nothing less. We all make mistakes – major ones, minor ones (spilling a cup of coffee, grabbing a pencil when we wanted a pen, posting what we believe in our heart of hearts is an accurate statement on a web site message board, etc.) – most of us on a daily basis and anyone who states otherwise just isn’t being honest. In other words, let’s respect one another and let’s respect that we’re all fallible human beings.

This is a site dedicated to those of us who love movie theatres new and old; it’s not nuclear physics or an attempt to balance a city budget. Let’s just chill, folks…

I am pleased to see that br91975 and CConnolly agree with me and understand what the true intention of this site is for. Let the childish pranksters such as TomScott be removed. Neither his antics, his presence, nor his delusions of godhood are welcome here. I have much knowledge to share. Perhaps I will continue to do just that after TomScott and the troublemakers like him are weeded out.

My contributions to this site are plainly visible to all who have access to it.

TomScott, you have no power here ! Be gone, before someone drops a house on you, too !

What’s with the hostility? This is the first time I’ve EVER seen nastiness on this site. Everyone is usually SO nice to eachother here. It’s one of the BEST things about this it.

Please stop or can someone please intervene and make it stop. It’s depressing.

PeterKoch
PeterKoch on February 18, 2005 at 8:43 am

OK, br91975. Sorry.

mhvbear, I think it goes beyond the “plex” itself to the once-grand, now gone theaters that used to be nearby, and some not-so-grand, now gone ones, starting with the former Loew’s Valencia, now the Tabernacle Of Prayer, the Merrick, the Alden, the Fox Jamaica, the Savoy, Loew’s Hillside …

mhvbear

SO much ranting and raving about a mediocre “plex”.

Enough with the B.S. Let’s focus on what this site is about – posting information, comments, and memorances about various movie theatres and lay off the potshots and insults, O.K.?

I am relieved to read that the management agrees with me. LM and a few others such as Charles and TC have been very mean spirited and disrespectful towards myself and other members. Perhaps they should be removed from here for the benefit of everyone.
I have located the site of the Ridgewood Folly Theatre RobertR can you say the same. Perhaps your research skills need honing. Perhaps PeterK should take his own advice and indulge in a therapist and also be removed from this site.

At the risk of “feeding the troll” :

TomScott, believing one’s self perfect is often the sign of a delusional mind. Be sure to take your medication, stay out of trouble, and report to your therapist and parole officer on time.

Magic Johnson/Loews was originally negotiating for this site, but somewhere along the way talks broke off, National Amusements then got involved and they closed the deal.
