WE did it at REGENCY MALL and Mr.Zacker does it here he inventories the whole theatre everynght.I never understood why.We certainly did not do it when i was with ABC PLITT THEATRES.Maybe it’s a Zack thing.
But like i said the girls do most of it for me. I hate counting.
Getting something called a TELZON computer to inventory the stock.I prefer a paper and pencil,Almost always i get a Concessionstand girl to do it,It gets them away from the counter,They always do my BOR’S.Never did them in Augusta, ain’t going to start now, Heck, really when you come down to it i count the money and make sure it gets in the bank.{2009 now everything,i bet is computer,got out at the right time}.
You know i am glad we are the Cinemas of choice for the UGA Football and Basketball programs,Mr.Zacker gets comp tickets to any game and good seats. He gets about 10 tickets a game.I think he is a DAWG fan and not a FLORDIA STATE fan anymore.
Speaking of girls,Mr.Zacker wants Pam to train in management.He wants US to start showing her the ropes.Karen Shaw the Box office girl has been here a long time,but she is happy selling tickets.It blew my mind to find out she is a Lincesed Pilot.Mrs,Anne,Mr.Smith’s wife brings some the best food for us.I guess she knows we are living off those 89 cent pizzas at Kroger.
Doggone it,Charles has a girlfriend in the Mall. Flowers and such. She works upstairs on the far level.Of course,I handle the cinemas cause Mr.Zacker knocks off at 5 pm.Speaking of girlfriends mine comes in one night from Augusta,We met at REGENCY.Glad she didn’t catch me hugging a Concessionstand girl.
Electrical problems one morning! It was a bad 20 amp breaker,I told ZACK i could change out a breaker,but he called a Electrical company to change it. I could have saved GCC some money.
First time in Athens I noticed the theatre hired off duty cops to work the MIDNIGHT SHOWS.Andy was the cop we always got and he was super cool.He hunted all his meat for his family,wild game hunter.He would always bring SOMETHING for us to eat.
One night have the friday night Midnight show ,Mike The relief Projectionist throws a party , so CHARLES and I go. Charles gets so wasted i have to put him to bed.His hangover is so bad Mr.Zacker and me both end up working a double.But that is the theatre business.
GEORGIA SQUARE MALL was huge compared to REGENCY in Augusta. The popcorn room at REGENCY was like a Closet. Our stock room was so small that often we would put Drink cups in the Projection Booth which teed off the operators,But there was no room. There was enought room at GEORGIA SQUARE in the Popcorn room for employees to have a desk to study by,since most of our staff was UGA students.
I noticed MIDNIGHT SHOWS were much calmer in Athens than Augusta.Even when we played ROCKY HORROR we did not have the headaches we had in Augusta.{SEE REGENCY 1,2.3.CINEMAS in Augusta.}
Bad thing about GCC we were on Salary. Had we been hourly we would have made alot more. My take home for 1983 was about $150.00 a week!That is working GCC hours sometimes a Kid movie,Regular features,and the ever present weekend midnight shows. I am also glad that GeorgiaSquare Mall 1.2.3.4. has it is own place on CT. Thanks Nick.

I came up to GEORGIA SQUARE between jobs and to help Mr.Zacker out.He was training the Assistant Charles Pileggi how to do an ad for the paper and he let it be known that he did not need my advice.I killed time behind the box office.Having put together ads before.Mr.Zacker was pretty good at the ads.
Another thing about the projectionists.They stayed to themselves unlike all the projectionists i had worked with in Augusta.Mr.Smith the head operator would hardly ever come in to our offices and chat.Maybe that was being a good Union man. His relief guy,Mike was the same way. Nothing wrong,Just different.

Unlike the KNOX THEATRE,the concessionstand was inside the WILKES theatre. It would not surprize me to find out it had a balcony; The lady i spoke to with the historical society could not tell me if Washington,Ga. Had a Drive-in.Even though in my Motion picture Almanac 1956 lists one.

Con on the new Kenny Rogers.He came to the Imperial Theatre in Augusta,Ga. When he was still with the NEW EDITION. He saw DIRTY MARY & CRAZY LARRY. He wanted a cup of Ice ,But the manager could not give him a free cup because they were an inventory item.So Kenny walked next door to SNAPPY’S a little hamburger joint next to the IMPERIAL to get a free cup. What a bone head manager,I would have given him a cup and wrote it off as damaged.

I guess we did like alot of urban theatres did and put THE LEGEND OF BLACK CHARLEY. Left the one sheets alone. Come on people seeing this western know the game we are playing.But what a title.

Iknow a closed up GENERAL CINEMA in AUGUSTA, GA. When they went broke they locked the doors and walked away i bet that booth is full of trailers.I sneaked in by a back exit door and witha flashlight walked all over the place.Mainly looking for one sheets. I did grab an old film can had i known anyone wanted trailers i could have grabbed a box full.Probably a few more locations like the one here in Augusta.
We have CHILDREN’S APPRECIATION DAY. The employees are dressing up as Cartoon figures in crazy costumes. Parents get in free, charing the kids $1.50. Large crowds.
Jim Neely is in the paper; they took a picture of him changing the Marquee at the IMPERIAL. He is putting up the next feature SHADOW OF THE HAWK.the paper is doing a article on superstitions,hence the 20 foot a frame ladder he is on. I never got in the paper, of course the paper is only a block away!

MR.MOM opened to good crowds.I was glad because i was a big TERRI GARR fan. But was nothing like THE BIG CHILL.People in that city loved that film.
