During the 60’s-70’s, the Baldwin was operated by Statewide Theatres, Century Theatres and for a short time Loew’s & GCC. During the 80’s, it was operated by the first Afro-American chain. At that time the theatre was tri-plexed, and was presenting 2nd run films to the area. So times a first run film would make it on to their screens. Around the mid 80’s, they sued Mann Theatres over area film rights. They also ran the old AMC Hawthorne 6 theatre. By the late 80’s, because of money problems they closed the Baldwin. And that a new plex opened a few mile east of the theatre. The flagship of the new Magic Johnson Theatre chain over near the Crenshaw area.
