A Theater…. Why would a newer 8 screen be closing unless the owner built a NEWER stadium facility nearby? or someone else did.. or the rent is too steep for the current operator..

Before you chop it up i AM SURE there is someone who would like to operate a cinema, and if it is turn-key it even makes it more attractive.. I may know someone interested if you can send me more info.

Thanks..

Gabriel, If you are in Ohio or Florida I know of 2 indipendant owners that are expanding their small chains. if you are in a small town no-one (BIG CHAINS) are going to touch the market area if they can go 30 miles up the interstate to the large town and build.

If you are in an area of NO COMPETITON you want to go FIRST RUN. don’t let them drive somewhere else. they won’t wait if they want to see a movie.

The concept of the DOLLAR THEATER started when the large chains started building new stadium locations down the road from existing locations that still had leases left on them. The chains knew they could never get a good price at a location they drove into the ground, so they would pass product down to the dollar theater after 4 to 6 weeks at the nicer theater at a higher price.

unfortunatly the profit in a dollar house is just that <less than a dollar.) With video release dates pushing faster and mega-plexs holding product in 67 seat theaters for another 8 weeks it is hard to make a run of it unless you are in a location where you have a VERY LOW OVERHEAD and operating costs.

going to bed now. Let me know if you would like to talk with either of the people in Fl or Ohio and I will see if they are willing to work with you.

definatly! it is a hobby, and a individuals dream to own a theater, you will not be raking in the BIG bucks.. Heart and soul go into it and the love. The closing of all the theaters of the larger companies not meeting the profit expectations really opened up possibilities for the small chain owner.

unfortunatly the condition of these leases dumped be the corporate chains are in questionable shape. The Carmike Hillsboro 8 is taking a wrecking ball to make way for a car lot.

With the realm of Digital Cinema and the MEGAPLEX holding prints longer (sometimes till one week prior to video release) It is becoming a risky business these days.

I remember going to the Cinemark Carriage Place 12 it was built just as nice as a multi- in the late 80’s w/o stadium, and bowed as the largest $1.00 theater in the united states. Man it was busy, now they have .50 tuesdays and other ways to bring people in.

BEWARE THESE CUSTOMERS ARE BIGGER CHEAPSCATES AND USUALLY SNEAK MORE FOOD IN AND PER-CAPITA’S ($$ Spent per person at the stand) are typically much lower. and a 25% rental on a $1.00 movie doesn’t pay the bills.

My wife and I stopped going to the Pitcher Show when admission went up to $6 a ticket. half the time no ticket was ever issued, and the sound and sight line are HORRIBLE!! the only thing they have going is the HUGE portions of food you get. We can drive to lakeland to the Carmike Mugs and Movies and it takes us the same amount of time to get to, and the floor is at least platformed to a better sight line than the FLAT FLOOR with NO SLOPE that looks like a store turned into a “Restarrant with a big screen” Serious upgrades need to happen, don’t know how Pitcher show stays open showing movies?

The best cinema pub I have been to is this one in Va. This company knows how to do it. http://www.cinema-cafe.com/hampton.html It’s a old Regal stadium 12 turned into a Cinema Pub.

Muvico at Ybor is not making much money, People going to Ybor are going to the clubs. Channelside may have a chance once all the new condos and urban re-development is complete.

The only real competition is the Westshore 14 in this area, Traffic is HORRIBLE anywhere on Dale Mabry and Hillsboro, there is a Muvico 10 way out in Palm Harbor.

Carmike does a poor job at managing their nicer theaters, suprises me that the Royal Palm 20 in bradenton wasn’t taken over by the landlord and Carmike Kicked out. It’s a shame they have a couple nice theaters, you wouldn’t even guess it was a Carmike until you got inside and saw how poorly it was operating, and how dirty it was.

I agree that the area is not the best, and that should allow for a lower lease price because of the demographic area. I guess that eventually as construction gos along there will be a sign going up to tell what is going in there. I do not get over to that area often, so if anyone sees anything let me know!

This was the 2000 bankrupsy of Carmike Cinemas. I just moved to Fl. when they filed bankrupsy I was to work there for a “Training period, but ended up going straight into Jacksonville.

I remember that Carmike Retro-fitted Stadium seating, and put the Mission Bell out of business. Carmike Execs claimed that the road construction killed the business.. although they owned the building it was rumored that it would be turned into a car lot.

I drove by on Monday May 1st and noticed construction trailers and construction company signs present, So I was curious as to who had taken over this location.

Thanks Chuck
