Robin, I ran off some more color pictures of NATIONAL HILLS after it closed. Some will make you sad.like the wrecking crew tearing out the concession area and ceiling,Light Fixtures hanging. Also a PIECE Of the screen is included. Hope you can put some of the pictures on CT.

’m sorry, I got a little lazy after I put those on. I’m still thinking about the easiest way to do the ads. Maybe I can work on them during Masters week while you’re out looking for Tiger!
I noticed our REUNION pictures have had 29 or so folks look at them. If you want put all those pictures i sent,Even the movie ads for the right theatre.Nick,has his scanner working so i will most likely be sending him some more theatre pics.
Well, i bet you had an adult movie.We usually had DISNEY during the MASTERS. I know you will enjoy the DALE MARBY Drive-in and 20th Century DRIVE-in.Great stories.Heck,you worked a drive-in in the big city of Atlanta. TLSLOEWS if i bump into him at BURGER KING down the street i will say hello.
I especially remember one Sunday night before the practice rounds started. For some reason we had all of these people from the media show up to go to a movie. We were packed!
I’ll have to check it out…that just caught my attention cause my father in law lives in Tampa.

Robin. You got to be kidding.Are you sure you did business on MASTERS week. Remember,the shopping center took 80% of the parking to sell for the golf fans.When I was at National Hills we had to have a special sticker to park. There was no parking!If you guys did business it was walk-up from the neighborhoods behind the theatre,It was a dead period when i was there in the mid 70’s.

The Masters always brought us a lot of business at National Hills. It was awful trying to leave work on the Sunday of the tournament. It seems like it always ended about 6…the same time we changed shifts! Is that the Nick from Tampa on here that came to visit?
Tlsloews,when Nick visited me I showed him National Hills Theatre,so he knows it is ACROSS the Street from the MASTERS. Not much left of National Hills but the theatre itself.One large box with everything else gone.
Well,let me add even though I live in a smaller city{thankgoodness} I don’t recall it ever playing here,not because of the X rating,Weis Cinemas had no problem showing X,I think smaller markets got it later,No mass openings like today; so think the news on it being a stinker Theatre chains pulled away from it. It might have played at the IMPERIAL with the “R” rating on a late show,but i don’t think it got a First run here,HEY,TIGER WOODS is coming to TOWN.The media here is going nuts with news people from all over wanting a place to set up cameras.the AUGUSTA NATIONAL don’t play that game. I know you both HATE golf.
You are right Nick,we were the only theatre to play this in Nashville as I remember,but we are in what is called the Bible Belt and it only ran 2 weeks at the most,and it was pretty boring it got a lot of hype though.
Mike & tisloews! Let me chime in here. Your mention of “Last Tango” brings to mind when the film opened at the Hillsboro II Ultravision in Tampa. It was advertised with an X rating and the Hillsboro was the only theatre in town that played it.
The showing I saw was jam-packed and was even delayed for several minutes while the manager and ushers assisted patrons in finding seats, asking those already seated to please move down and fill up any empty seats to make room for last minute arrivals. Couples were even asked if they minded splitting up so they could both be seated.
The film was only mildly interesting in spots but basically boring. Brando’s nude scene took place on a dance floor where he lowered his pants and shook his naked rear end. It was not a pretty sight!

I thought he had a Nude scene in that Film,like i said,I never saw it.

I was at Augusta College when they booked “Tango” in the film series.The professor said there was two versions and the college was getting the"R",but when the CAPRI THEATRE downtown was raided they decided to pull it. I never did see it. Brando nude? not me. I bet “MIDNIGHT COWBOY” could get by with a PG-13 today. You know it was"X".
I thought so just checking your knowledge and memory.We showed an X rated version of Last Tango in Paris at the LOEWS CRESENT did not do much business would be rated R today I am sure.Not one of Brandos best movies I thought is was boring!!
Oh, Before the"M" rating it was S.M.A. {suggested for mature Audience} I have a one-sheet or two with that on it. {Probably,Something like Bonnie&Clyde}.
TLSLOEWS,yes it means “M” mature. then it was changed to GP which really confused parents.{see PAINT YOUR WAGON,Daniel Village theatre} then PG,which made sense.When they got to PG-13, I think I was out of the theatre business.
“M” rating does that mean mature? Do not remember that one.
“WINNING” the Paul Newman racing epic opens at National Hills with the “M” rating.1969.
Robin, went to the theatre chains listed on CT and saw GEORGIA THEATRES and guess what our NATIONAL HILLS THEATRE was listed as a GEORGIA THEATRE,which in all fairness it closed as a Georgia THeatre Company theatre, but man I would love to see ABC THEATRES or PLITT theatres,but that is life. Don’t mind the other Augusta theatres being listed under the Georgia Theatre banner,but NATIONAL HILLS was such a step above the entertaiment peddled at Georgia Theatres here in AUGUSTA.
Yeah , it’s true. I think Bill would back me up. When you talk to DIANE and CAthy tell them to at least give you their FAVORITE MOVIE THEY saw NOT PLAYED AT National Hills. You can type them up for them of Course mine is 2001. Bill’s was SUMMER of 42.
