the coral theater i remember didn’t but up to 95th it sat back from 95th—-it was all white i believe——on the corner of 95th was a frozen custard shop with a huge stone polar on it’s hind legs——i’m embrassed to say the custard place is more fresh than the theater—-we lived on 63rd and went to the lawn,colony,hi-way,and downtown——i left the city——in 1957—-then went in the army——so much has changed——-does any one remember the custard place? p.s.——add bear after polar——polar bear

i keep checking for news of the uptown’s rescue everyday——when will the compass rose website be updated with if anything is happening———is it possible that the city or state could get stimulas fund’s for a restoration project—-this could create some jobs——what about using it for a olympic games in 2016 if chicago is selected as host city——it might be a cool and comfotable place to watch various events if you can’t get a ticket(s)?

we lived right up the street in the 3200 block of west 63rd st——we had a number of theater with walking distance——of course the marquette—-the lawn about 2 blocks up 63rd st——the colony at 59th and kedzie———and a mile east the hiway between 63rd and 62d on western ave—-we would walk up 63rd only on nice days ——to cold in the winter and to hot in the summer to i sold newspapers on the sw corner of 63rd and kedize for a preety demanding boss—we sol the trib,sun-times, hearald-american,and the daily news——-we had no air conditioning in our flat(apartment)——the marquette had a 1st rate system——you didn’t have to wait to long to get the 1st run movies from downtown—-the thing i remember most about the marquette was the ticket taker—-i believe his name was mr tierney-a very trim gentlemen with a beautiful head of white hair——he would ocasionally let us in for free——-on hot summer afternoons—-the whole staff was super nice ticket sales ladioes -refreshment stand server——ushures-funny a saw many movies at the marquette-but the thing i remember most was the theater stff—-1st rate —-the very best

we moved from the douglas park neighborhood to an apartment in the 3200 block on west 63rd street in the summer of 1944——my dad was in the navy—-i started school at eberhart in the fall of that ——eberhart was at 65th and homan—-about two blocks away from the lawn———as i recall the lawn was a mom and pop operation at that time—-the owner, his wife, son, and daughter sold tickets—-ran a small refreshment stand——acted as ushers ect———admission for the kids was 12 cents——12 cents unbelievable——pop corn——5 cents a box———-10 cents a bag——-most candy bars a nickle——-we usually went to the on sat afternoons——-when many other kids went from eberhart——-the older kids went on friday nites——-with the adults—-saw a movie usuallly a western——-a serial——which you couldn’t hardly wait to get back the following week to see——-a cartoon—-all the cowboy hero’s——-gene aurtry——roy rogers——-hopalong——with their side kicks——my memories of that time are so clear——happy times——even tho my dad was in the south pacific at the time——thank god he came home safely——he would take me sometimes on friday nites——eveen tho i wasn’t one of the big kids
