Visited this theatre often in the late 80’s/early 90’s for art house films like “Mystery Train” and “The Vanishing”. There were, of course, the midnight showings of Rocky Horror too. My understanding is the whole immediate area of what is now the GEF building complex was, in the 70’s, of “ill repute” and the Majestic a porn-XXX theatre. It has indeed come a long way. Keep up the good work!
My first visit back to this site and the Baronet Theater entry in quite some time. Nice to see all the comments added over the years. I agree, PPDDSS, about rivjr’s comment from 2005 and note it has since been taken down. Documenting important history on this site goes far beyond bricks, mortar, and marquees. A photograph posted here shows one of such protests outside the building. Be well as we outlast this COVID pandemic.

Gus Paras owned and ran Kosta’s Greek restaurant on State Street in the ‘80’s and 90’s. Nice he’s been so committed to the Madison CBD.
