In April of 1936 Purves was expecting to open in early September with United Artists titles “Little Lord Fauntleroy” or “Things to Come”. However, his merger with Hoyts and Greater Union meant access to a broad range of top product, and a pre-release showing of Fox’s Xmas hit “Poor Little Rich Girl” launched the 999 seat theater on Friday 27th November 1936 – three weeks before the feature opened at Sydney’s Hoyts Regent.
