It is sad that this entry deals with the Encore as if it is a going concern. The real Encore as noted above, closed in about 2000 to host bands at the Gaelic Club which was right next door.
I remember seeing a poster inside which stated that the owner had a bit part in the movie Ghandi, as a policeman near the end. Does anyone know what happened to the owner, or anything that verifies same?

The Encore was known as a small but humble arthouse cinema in the less than salubrious part of Sydney, right near Central. It ran a number of Twilight Zone nights. Small but cosy, it was a great place for a quiet Saturday night. It was close to the Oceanic Café, a haven for el cheapo meals.
