I remember this cinema opening right after I moved to this area of Cardiff. I saw the opening film there but don’t think it was on the opening night. I remember they often showed classics including some Marilyn Monroe films – I saw “Bus Stop” there. Also remember seeing the Mancurian Candidate and a Cheech & Chong movie at the late show. The audience always sang along with the Pearl & Dean tune and many of the ads – “Butterkist, Butterkist, rah-rah-rah!” – but the biggest laugh was always reserved for the “Bonkers” ad (the hairdressers next door).

Does anyone remember a movie made in Atlanta and shown at The Howard in December 1925 – “An Atlanta Romance”? It was made by Slim Brolund, a filmmaker who went from town to town making films using the townspeople and featuring local businesses. I have newspaper clippings detailing the making of the movie. The leading lady was Miss Pearl Bessent. Would love to know if anyone remembers this.
