The Magick Lantern was originally opened as a sole proprietor operated movie theater in 2013 about two years ago in Point Richmond. Its success was well received by the public, but was not profitable as a one-man operation. Indeed John is correct that group of those in the community has taken over and established a non-profit business structure.

The Magick Lantern’s primary mission is to provide a cultural alternative to the commercial film experience, to celebrate and promote the artistic elements of the medium, to nurture and promote the art of filmmaking itself, and to provide education and discussion of the film’s story and how those stories relate to our lives.
