Designed by famed Thai architect Chira Silpakanok.
Today The Scala is considered the last active movie palace in Thailand and arguably the finest single-screen movie theater in Southeast Asia.
It is currently under threat of demolition by its landlord, Chulalongkorn University, which aims to replace it with a shopping mall. Contract expires in 2019.
