Sadly it’s being demolished as we speak, with only the Facade remaining: http://hiddencityphila.org/2017/02/a-royal-loss-on-south-street/
Looks like it had some live programming from 2012-2015 according to this Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/TheIndianaTheater/
Now it appears to be part of Amplify Church: http://www.amplifychurch.com/indianacampus
So glad to read all of the nice comments about my favorite local movie house where I’m a member and volunteer. We are starting up tours of the theatre on every first Sunday of the month and we’ve started a Facebook page, Flickr page and Twitter account to keep fans up-to-date on what is going on with the theatre.
I have posted a scan of a photo I took of the Village Cinema’s sign in 1988:
I remember seeing The AristoCats for my birthday at this theater – some time between 1973-75.My great aunt lived in the Hancock Village apartments behind the shopping center where the Village Cinema was, from the time it opened as returning vets housing, until she passed in her 90’s.
Thanks so much for the links to my articles about the wonderful Roxy Theatre in Northampton, it truly is a gem and I’m so glad I get to share it with my RetroRoadmap.com Readers!
If any Cinema Treasures folks want to add a theatre to the Retro Roadmap I’d love to add them. They need to be open and operating, so folks can go support them, and hopefully a good architectural example of why we want to save these historic structures and not tear them down.
Email me a photo and a description of the theatre ( my contact info is here http://retroroadmap.com/contact-retro-roadmap/ ) and thanks for checking out Retro Roadmap! I hope it puts some people in the seats of these fabulous movie palaces!
