AMC has purchased this complex and it will now be known as the AMC Tamiami 18.
I saw Interstellar in beautiful 35mm here today. The quality of the presentation was great (especially for a week-old print), and the facility was well maintained and staffed. Please note that the shopping center charges for parking, but you can validate it for a discount.
I attended a screening of Christopher Nolan’s “Interstellar” here. I love that this theater is still running 35mm film, as it is of a much higher picture and color quality than digital cinema. It’s sad that Hollywood is phasing out film and forcing cinemas to downgrade to an inferior format.
Now for the bad: the theater is understaffed and is in need of repairs, especially in the lobby and restrooms. Also, there are no refills on popcorn and soda, not even if you pay!
Here’s the bottom line: if you only care about the movie itself and want to save some money, go here. Otherwise, spend your money at Cobb or AMC.
I went here a few days ago, and found out that 1/5 of the complex still has 35mm projection. In my opinion, as with many others, film stock has a much higher picture and color quality than digital projection. This complex should stay the way it is, so anyone, regardless of format preference, can see their preferred method here.
Also, the service and ticket prices are better than what’s found at other theatres in the area (AMC Brandon, AMC Veterans).
