Ah, darn. I have loved to have had one of those BIG numbers….I remember being around for the gutting and just never getting back there to retrieve a memento…Oh, BTW, I heard Ed works at a gourmet Deli called Marino’s in Flushing now.

Hello Everybody!

What an AMAZING thread and I can’t believe I found it. I grew up a few blocks away from that theater and went to opening day in 1971! Does anybody remember the aquarium right next to the candy stand? If you got a quarter into the shotglass you got a free pass.

I remember Rosie, Henry and Michael Hockstein—great managers and they let me in all the time for free. And Mr. Warhob. I do know what happened to Ed: my friend told me but I forgot what he said…I’ll ask him. I worked at that theater in the summer of 1979—my first job. My brothers and sister all worked there from the time it opened to the time I began working there.

I would LOVE a piece of memorabilia….does anyone have any of the “mod” letters that lined the auditoriums? What sign is behind the Kam Ying? If it’s the UA Quartet Sign, I want it. I LOVED that theater. It definitely played a role in the movies I now direct.

All the best and keep the information coming!
