It must have been heartbreaking for patrons of the State Theatre, such a great source of entertainment for the African American community with films and live presentations to have ended its theatrical life as an adult house in 1969. But that’s how it ended on June 7, 1969 after more than four decades of service. The adult entertainment would move onward to the Cinna Arts on Ervay Street and the State at Hall St. and Thomas Ave. would conclude its service as a Cinema Treasure.
