The Bay Shore theater referred to is the Bay Shore Cinema. The two buildings were very similar. This pic is circa 1987. The marquee bore that “closed for alterations” message for about a decade before reopening briefly (no alterations were done) and then finally closing.

That was a really big stand-alone marquee, looks more like something that would have been outside of a drive-in
