Equipped with two Simplex 35mm projectors, the Wintergarden soon screened its first film program “Beau Geste” from Monday 13th June 1927. A ‘grand prologue’ - with orchestra conducted by Will Hunton - featured ‘marches and love songs of the Legion’. Original manager was George Coates. A few months later he was replaced by Joe Scales.
