AMC New Brunswick 18

Built on the site of the old Route 1 Flea Market at the junction of Routes 1 and 18, the 79,516-square-foot Loews New Brunswick was the circuit’s first to feature stadium seating and non-traditional concessions fare (chicken tenders, fries, restaurant-style nachos, etc.). The 18-screen theatre, built at a cost of $12 million, was designed by architect David Rockwell and was the first facility to be opened using the Loews Theatres name after the company’s brief stint as Sony Theatres.

The theatre, which opened on November 22, 1996, was an immediate success and prompted Loews to seek to expand the facility. In June of 1999, a seven-screen, 21,000-square foot addition was approved but, due to the company’s bankruptcy filing in February 2001, the proposed expansion never took place.

Laser IMAX is confirmed to be in the works from this theater’s official website: https://www.amctheatres.com/movie-theatres/new-brunswick/amc-new-brunswick-18

With regard to NJ, Cherry Hill 24 has also been confirmed to receive IMAX with Laser and Garden State 16’s IMAX is undergoing renovations (Laser is not confirmed as of yet but it’s likely).

I’m skeptical that they’ll add recliners, however, since that would halve the number of available seats. For these kinds of upgrades, the new seating that they usually put in are called “AMC Signature Plush Rockers”

After three-and-a-half months (73 days) of renovations, the upgraded Laser IMAX auditorium with AMC Signature Plush Rocker seating opened here on Thursday October 3rd, just in time for Joker.

So obviously with what’s going on with the current pandemic, this AMC theater along with all the others in the US are currently closed. My question is do you think this AMC theater will open again? Because I still greatly prefer going to it over some of the other AMC locations in the area and will practically be heartbroken if it ends up closed for good, especially given how much the theater has meant to me over the years and all the memories I have from the times I’ve spent at the place.

If it was a good theatre before the pandemic, it will reopen. Whether AMC operates it or not, somebody else will.

So has anyone been back to this theatre since it reopened? If so, what is the vibe like? And are they selling concessions right now? I’m just wondering since I might finally check out Tenet soon and would like to have an idea of what I can expect. Also, I do respect that AMC is at least trying to keep their theatres open right now. If they play their cards right, maybe they can gain some new patrons over the next few months, especially given what has happened with Regal theaters. And generally speaking, I just really hope that movie theaters can survive this whole mess. Because given how much going to the movies has meant to me over the years, simply put, I can not imagine a world without movie theaters heading forward. That is too depressing for me to even think about.

I know. AMC might file for bankruptcy for the first time in its history while still operating their theaters.

First off, I really have a soft spot for this theater given how many good memories I have from the times I’ve seen movies at the theater over the years. Plus, it was my late father’s favorite movie theater as well. And the clutching of pearls isn’t for AMC necessarily, but because I’m honestly really concerned that due to what’s going on with the pandemic, movie theaters, in general, might very well not be able to survive. And I think it would be very sad if we were living in a world without movie theaters soon. I know a lot of people like to watch movies at home these days instead of going to the theater. But, as far as I’m concerned, nothing still beats the movie going experience!
