The Fox Covina Theatre was a bland, 1960’s box style theatre that opened By National General Theatres/Fox West Coast Theatres on June 27, 1969 with Dean Jones in “The Love Bug” & the Walt Disney animated featurette “Winnie the Pooh”. It had 814-seats. It was twinned on December 14, 1972. Somewhere along the line was tri-plexed. When I attended the theatre was already a second run house with bad projection and scratchy prints. The house was ill maintained and as far as I could tell really didn’t have much of a style to begin with.
In 1985 it suffered by the opening of the large multi-screen AMC Covina theatre down the block. The Fox Covina Theatre was closed around 1999.
It has since been demolished.

On the north side of the theater (west side of Azusa Ave,) there was a Marie Callender’s, with the original architecture style of the Marie’s. I remember frequenting this Marie Callender’s when I was young and it didn’t have indoor restrooms. You had to go outside and they were located on the side of the buildings. This was the early 80s. I also remember at this time, that my parents stopped frequenting this theater for awhile. It was due to reports of two young children being abducted from the theater.

This takes me back to December 18th 1978. My mom, older & younger brother stood in line for 3 hours to see SUPERMAN THE MOVIE. The line went all the way to the back of theatre were there was additional parking. I also saw GREASE and so many forgettable bad films like VENOM.

Finally checked. It was listed in the SoCal section 1989-1997 and the independent theatres until 1999. No listings found in January 2000.
I probably saw more movies in this theater, growing up, than any other in the area. In the early 70s, my mom would buy us tickets to the summer series. Second-run kids films shown very, very early in the day, and for very cheap. Sometimes, we would stop on the way and stock up on candy at 7-11! I can’t remember exactly what I saw here, but I do know that I saw the original Rocky movie, here.
