The Capitol was opened in 1947 and it was located next to another Shaw Organisation's cinema - The Federal. The
Capitol was a Chinese movie hall until 1996 when it switched to showing Indian movies until it was closed in 2000.

The Capitol Cinema had a capability to show 3-D movies and
it has shown movies like Friday the 13th Part in Super 3-D, Jaws 3, and etc. The last 3-D movie that was shown in the Capitol was MetalStorm. The Capitol Kuala Lumpur also has a capability of screening movies that are in 70 MM format.
