The Delta Theatre was a neighborhood theatre that catered to African-American patrons. It was located on Florida Avenue and Desire Parkway, bordering the Desire Housing Development and operated from at least 1950.

The Delta Theatre was owned by Pittman Theatres, and closed in the early-to-mid-1960's. Although I later worked for Pittman Theatres, I have little information on this theatre.

Here is a photo of a Delta Theater from the Historic New Orleans Collection. Would that be a photo of this theater?

Yes, this is the correct Delta Theatre. If I remember correctly, it was demoshed in the late 70's, although it closed in the 60's.

The February 2, 1946, issue of Boxoffice said that the Pittman Brothers' Delta Theatre had opened on January 25. The first movie shown was "Anchors Aweigh."
