Tampa’s first drive-in ceases operation on September 26, 1983 with “War Games” and “Poltergeist” as the final features. Photo of lot (from poor quality microfilm) was published on October 20, 1983 showing speaker poles have already been removed. Refreshment building and screen are next to go. Text underneath photo states drive-in was built in 1939 although the grand opening wasn’t held until April 1941. Article from the Tampa Tribune.
