Mark Angell launched Orpheum Theatre primarily as a movie house in downtown Keokuk on August 11, 1911. The opening program feature Mary Pickford in “Science,” the Powers Picture western, “Nevada,” and Carl Alstrup in “The Son of the Executioner.”
