Bradford Odeon To Be Demolished

BRADFORD, ENGLAND — The fate of the Bradford Odeon was sealed at a meeting last week when it was stated that demolition was the only viable option for the building, possibly retaining the two corner towers.

The spectacular interior had been butchered beyond recognition in the 1960’s and restoration is not feasible, says a report in Yorkshire Today.

Bradford lost so much of its great architecture during the 60’s redevolopment, which is now its self being demolished. it seems absolute insanity to demolish what little is left of pre 60’s Bradford and it really shows the sad state of the times when such a beautiful building as the Bradford Odoen can just be demolished with no forsight what so ever, it’s the 60’s redevelopment mentality all over again. The whole building should be listed anyway, and whatever the state of the building with today’s restoration technology it could surely be saved. When those towers fall it will be a sad day for Bradford!
