Brokeback Mountain screening at State Theatre

BAY CITY, MI — Fans from all over the country will be attending a special screening of the movie Brokeback Mountain on Sunday, February 25, 2007 at the State Theatre in Bay City, Michigan.

There will be autographed posters and original costumes from the movie on display at the theatre.

This special screening is being sponsored by John Trudell (BayCityJohn), a member of the internet group The Ultimate Brokeback Forum. This is a great opportunity to see the film on the big screen, and to meet other passionate fans of great filmmaking. It has been suggested by a number of fellow fans of the film that the 2007 Oscar telecast not be viewed in favor of watching the film that should have won the Best Picture Oscar, Brokeback Mountain.

This has already been publicized on The Ultimate Brokeback Forum, a website established by journalist Dave Cullen, and it boasts over 5,000 subscribers worldwide and contains over a half million individually posted items.

You may not know that members of the Forum raised over $25,000 in a matter of a few days in order to place a full-page ad in Daily Variety, March 10, 2006, five days after the Oscar debacle, thanking the creators, cast and crew of Brokeback Mountain for transforming the lives of countless people around the world through the magic and power of the best film of 2005 and proceeded to enumerate the many organizations that awarded its top honor to the film. You may view the ad at this address:

The placement of this ad received national media attention and is completely unprecedented in the annals of motion picture history that any kind of full-page ad had been placed in Daily Variety after the Oscars for a film that did not win Best Picture. The ad was placed as a positive expression of support for the film rather than expressing anger at the Academy’s surprising decision.

I can’t wait to see ‘Brokeback Mountain’ on the big screen again! And I’m twice as excited that I get to see it at the State Theater – I’ve seen the Mayan Revival interior once(designed by architect C. Howard Crane in 1930!), but I’ve never had the opportunity to see a film there. Both the movie and the theater are treasures and I’m so pleased to see this there that I’m traveling from California!

I’ll be flying in from Boston for this wonderful event! I can’t wait to see Brokeback Mountain on the big screen again…and to watch it with so many people that feel the same way that I do about the best film ever made is absolutely priceless. I am looking forward to seeing those that I have met before and so many that I haven’t met yet (especially you awesome writers whose stories I read every day)! Thank you, John, for organizing this…you’re the best!

I’ll be flying in from San Antonio, TX for this special occasion to see Brokeback Mountain in the beautiful State Theater. A wonderful opportunity to see both gems at one time.

San Antonio boasts a few historic theaters as well, the Majectic, Empire, Aztec, Mayan and Alameda. In addition, only the facade of the famed Texas Theater remains, after a midnight raid by the wrecking ball was stopped by the Historic Preservation Officer about 30 years ago by standing in front of the demolition team.

Let me add my thanks John for all your hard work in getting this event planned and brought to pass! Seeing Brokeback on the big screen, especially in a historic theater like the State, will be an experience cherished for a lifetime. You want to hear of the magical drawing power of this film? This resident of south Florida will be flying northward into the land of freezing temperatures and snow cover just to participate in this event. I can hardly wait to freeze my ass off!
