CHESAPEAKE, VA — Just when I thought I’d seen everything, a new car dealership tries to lure customers with many unique amenities including a movie theater.
Soon, car buyers will be able to watch a movie, get a haircut and a manicure and do it all from the comfort of a local car dealership.
On Monday in Chesapeake, Priority Automotive will open at 1800 Greenbrier Parkway, and it will feature a restaurant with full-service kitchen, a movie theater, plasma screen televisions, a hair salon, a shoe shine station, a Wi-Fi work area and a manicure station. A dedicated executive chef will provide snacks and gourmet meals, and a kids play area includes a 250-gallon saltwater aquarium.

I’m surprised the Indian casinos haven’t done the same thing….yet.
Here in the San Francisco Bay Area, there is a car dealer which has been doing the same type of thing—manicures, pedicures, coffee shop, lounge, TV…but no theater…yet. Their commmercials feature banter between the dealership owner and the Bay Area’s #1 talkshow host—a customer of theirs—kidding around while talking about the cars and the facility.
It’s probably a screening room that plays DVD’s and commercials.
With stand-alone movie theaters being such a political target these days, one way to ensure their continued existence is to package them in with something else, whether it be a casino, theme park, hotel or what have you. But this is certainly an all-new first! As part of an auto dealership? Who woulda ever thunk it?
A couple things disturbing about this particular case though is that I couldn’t imagine people feeling comfortable seeing movies in this theater unless they’re there to buy a car, too, and that what they get to see isn’t completely biased.
It might just work, we will see what happens
