I suppose it’s a long shot, but if you are the Cyndi Lauper I have idolized for years and you want to open a theatre I will come every day and clean and polish it for nothing. Cyndi rules!!!!!!

Check Out the Joy Theatre in Mt. Joy, Lancaster County, PA and the Marietta Theatre in Marietta, Lancaster County, PA. Both are listed on this website. The Joy Theatre is for sale. It is in fairly decent shape considering it has not been used in over 40 years. The seats are gone, but the building has been maintained. Even the murals are still on the auditorium walls. I have pictures of the outside and inside of this theatre. The Marietta Theatre is currently being restored by the Historic Marietta Restoration Association. I know now that they are in the midst of that project, they still have no plans what they are going to do with the theatre when it is ready for use. Lancaster County is about 60 miles West of Philadelphia and only about 25 miles East of Harrisburg, the state capital. Either one would be an ideal candidate for operation.

The Ritz Theatre in Elizabeth New Jersey is up for sale after undergoing major renovations. I know the projection room needs minor work, and the stage house is ready to support some road shows, concerts, plays etc.

dennisczimmerman on August 23, 2008 at 7:22 am

Cyndi-lauper: I attempted to email you some pictures, but received a failure notice as the file was too large. I think I included about four pictures. So I will try it again with just two.

I am fundraising and looking for a theater to buy, manage, occupy, lease, or rent in the Los Angeles area to continue the 50 year legacy of my parents, whose theater was demolished, under color of law, by the Los Angeles Community Redevelopment Agency on my birthday in September 1998 — 10 years ago — I attempted to visit but there are no theatre listings there and the domain name is for sale. longislandmovies, please post a corrected url. Thanks.

Hey CyNdI, in addition to that 2800 seat beauty I told you about in Elizabeth N.J., about 25 miles south of there is a 500 seater in Metuchen N.J. that also sits unused. I really hope something happens with one or both. I worked in both many years ago, and live locally to both, and willing to help get em up and running again.

TheaterOwner01 on August 29, 2008 at 9:57 am

The 500 seat sounds promising, and no problem in you working if i could find out who to contact, thank you

NativeForestHiller on August 29, 2008 at 10:59 am

Hi! I e-mailed you, but want to make sure you received it. I am a historic preservationist who is spearheading an effort to save the 1916 Ridgewood Theatre in NY by America’s foremost Thomas Lamb. It is a represenation of the long-demolished first American movie palace, Times Square’s Strand Theatre. Until the Ridgewood Theatre’s closing in March, it was the longest continuously operating theater in NY, and potentially countrywide. It is for lease or for sale, according to latest accounts. Please let me know if the following would be of interest to you, or if a colleague of yours may be interested: & View link You can reach me at Thank you!

dennisczimmerman on September 3, 2008 at 6:31 pm

Hi CyNdi, I had emailed you two pictures of the Joy Theatre in Mt. Joy, Pa. It has been closed since the late 1960’s, but the building has been maintained. Mt. Joy, Pa. is located in Lancaster County midway between Lancaster and Harrisburg. I know a while ago I was talking to Stacy Rutherford in the Main Street Mount Joy office and they were really willing to work with anyone to get the theatre reopened. Her email address is Also the Marietta Theatre in Marietta, Pa. which is about 10 miles West of Mt. Joy is currently being restored by the local Marietta Restoration association. I know the last time I had read about the progress they were looking for someone to take over the theatre when the work was done. I can send you more pictures of the Joy Theatre. I would really like to see either one of these two theatres reopened. Both theatres are listed on this website. The Joy Theatre has two businesses in the building and I believe seven apartments on the 2nd floor. The real estate office is located in what was the theatre lobby and foyer. As I said I can send additional pictures.
Call me determined!!!!! Thanks

TheaterOwner01 on September 3, 2008 at 6:53 pm

There is a old theatre built in 1880 that I know of. 1300 seats approx. On a major roadway in Gloucester County NJ. Has a ton of potential. Town wants someone to do something with the building and restore it back to its former glory. If not I am afraid they will knock it down. It needs some work. Being in the entertainment business myself. I would love to help you out in anyway possible. If you would like more information I can email it to you.

We used to run the playtime theatre in Jax Florida. Also worked for numerous theatres in the area and am projectionist/maiteance tech. Playtime was sold to a church on May 31 2008 and drive in was closed. Church doesnt have the money, building is old run down and in need of repair. We really want to start another drive in here in Jacksonville Florida. If interested email us, we have all the equipment needed to restart.
