I dont want to be a pessimist, but its awful hard to make money with anything that seats 200.
I managed a 248 seat single screen theatre in NE Iowa in ‘06, the admission was .99 cents and the theatre ran seven days a week. It was very profitable. The nearest competition was 30 miles away. If this 200 seater has competition it can be run successfully by not going head-to-head with the competition (don’t play what they’re playing) but become a specialty house. Assuming all the equipment is in place and in good shape I wouldn’t hesitate to rent it.
The last people to run the theatre were great and worked their tails off.The LANDLORD wanted to raise their rent! This upset the delicate balance they were trying to keep.
The were forced to close up shop BC of the foolishness of the landlord. Now it sits empty and the town suffers bc of it!
If a new operator comes on board hopefully the landlord will have learned from his mistake and work with them.
