Proctor’s rally today

TROY, NY — I heard on the news this morning that there is a rally today at the Proctor’s Theatre to protest the proposed conversion of this theatre into office and retail space. They are going to use a government grant to destroy a beautiful theater which is listed on the National Register of Historic Buildings. I am headed over there now.

They don’t care if it’s the most beautiful theatre ever built, if they want it gone, it’s gone. At least it wont be a parking lot. Seems funny nobody has a job yet they want office and retail space. Join the long list of beautiful theatres to bite the dust. Damn shame is what it is.

This is what happened to the once beautiful Astoria Theatre in Astoria, Queens, NY. It became a gym and retail stores; however, it is on a main street of shopping. But it’s ugly and a shame. What I see alot and do not fully understand, is if business is bad, why are they building so many shopping centers? And, especially when a shopping strip is boarded up on one block, another one is being built on another block. Why can’t we save some of the beautiful buildings we already have? We are running out of excuses. Crazy.
