LAKELAND, FL — Dickinson Theatres closed the Lakeland Square 10 on July 29. Although the caption under the picture accompanying a recent article reads “for good,” the information in the article announcing the closing indicates that theater has been sold and may reopen under new management.
“The theater’s not maintained,” Yocum said. “We have lights out in the auditoriums, holes in the ceiling, light water damage, things like that.”
He said two of auditoriums are currently out of service because of maintenance issues, including lack of sound in one auditorium.

Vintage pre-Regal sale – Cobb Theaters from the pictures on the Ledger site. Of coarse what’s funny is the quote about silent movies – Movieland a discount theater outside of Hartford, CT kind of did that. With a 16MM projector they showed classic films in one aud, 6 second run features on the other screens (although Lionsgate let them show some features on break, day and date with the big 20-plex down the road oddly enough – including Punisher and Diary of a Mad Black Women) – and one screen was dark. They scrapped the 35MM projector parts on the 16MM and the dark screen to keep the 6 screens running.
Perhaps the Lakeland Square 10 when repaired will have another life, sound perfect for a discount house or maybe depending on the area a Cobb Cinebistro.
Whats going on with the Dickinson circuit anyway. They haven’t added any new theatres for some time. Their IMAX project in Wichita ,Oklahoma City and Springfield never materialized and more and more newspaper articles are showing up about the sad shape of their theaters due to lack of maintenance. Even to the point of getting the city commissions attention. When you cant use as many as two auditoriams because the sound doesn’t work thats sad! The Dickinson circuit once prided their theatres as luxury and now the ones that I have been in are dirty and dusty. I know I worked there in the late 70’s but something is definately wrong here!
I totally 2nd what Joel says…
The Lakeland Square will reopen after it is gutted and retro-fitted.
Location will be going stadium, all digital projection, and 3-D.
Look for it to reopen in the first quarter of 2011.
building was raised last year. The person who was going to re-open it had financing issues, and backed out. Since this Cinemark has started construction of a 12 screen attached to the mall where Dillards used to be.
