SANTA MONICA, CA — Santa Monica has been lacking modern theaters for awhile with the need only heightening in the wake of the Criterion closing. AMC was going to build a new theater nearby but plans fell through. The city is still cleaning up after that missed opportunity but plans should be able to move forward with this new cinema on the mall’s Dining Deck.

I recently heard that the new mall is not doing too well — I wonder which store or stores will close to provide the space for this.
Also, not surprised to hear that the Criterion 6’s closing didn’t result in an uptick at the other theatres on the Promenade… in my opinion, they were the best screens down there.
I hope a new theatre won’t close the Broadway or the current AMC…Santa Monica Promenade is one of the few places that still has this main street movie theatre effect. Do we really need another movie theatre in a mall?
The Mann Criterion Didn’t Effect The Business of the Other Theaters If Anything it Brought alot of Loyal Customers to Santa Monica and Restaurants and Retail Stores!!!!! COULDN’T STAND A LITTLE HARMLESS COMPO?!!!!!!!! Sad,Bad Mistake and know we are all suffering !!!!!!!!! I say Bring Back Mr. MANN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
