From A brand new movie theater featuring giant-sized screens opens Thursday in Gibsonton just in time for the opening of “Beauty and the Beast.”

The Riverview 14 GDX will offer film fans a unique movie-watching experience.

The theater has fourteen theaters, each with IMAX-rated sound walls to ensure no sound bleeds through. Each theater comes complete with full-motion, plush leather recliners in stadium style seating.

Two of the screens will be enormous. They will be 70 feet wide by 40 feet tall. Goodrich Quality Theaters COO Martin Betz says they are the biggest in the Tampa Bay area.

The two Giant Digital Experience (GDX) theaters also feature a multi-dimensional sound system called Premium Dolby Atmos, which allows guests to “feel the action.”

“We’re combining many speakers in this room, up to 60 or 70 speakers to create a life-like experience,” Betz said.

The other unique thing about Riverview 14 GDX is its full service sit-down restaurant.

“Features,” a Gastro-Pub Restaurant and Bar offers fresh, never frozen dishes and a full bar. Food can be eaten in the restaurant or taken inside the theater to enjoy.

“We’re hoping not to distract anyone from the real reason they’re here, and that is to have a premium movie-going experience,” Betz said.

The theater will still have a normal concession stand with popcorn popped fresh each day. Popcorn refills are given for 50 cents. Refills on fountain drinks of any size are free.

The Goodrich Quality Theater rewards program offers new members a free soft drink or popcorn just for signing up.

The Riverview 14 GDX is located at 9390 Theater Drive in Gibsonton.
