    Can you ID this theater?

I participate in the chat board of the “Talkin' Broadway” web site, and on its homepage is a photograph of a theater which is obviously not a Broadway theater, but instead is what appears to be an atmospheric movie palace. In the site’s FAQs, the owners admit they have no idea what theater it is. I am also an old theater buff, but every lead I have followed has so far come up dry.

I would appreciate any help or suggestions that the experts on this forum might have to try to identify this theater. Thank you in advance.

Postcard showing off the Earl Carroll

    Earl Carroll Postcard

A search around these parts didn’t yield up a listing on the Earl Carroll or the Nickelodeon on Sunset. Was the Earl a live venue? A pretty colorful exterior either way.

    Majestic Theatre cameo

RENO, NV — “The Captive City” – a 1952 crime drama took place in the fictional city of Kennington. The actual location of the shooting was Reno, Nevada.

Towards the beginning of the film John Forsythe parks his car on a downtown street. While he is standing on the sidewalk, there is a prominent shot of Reno’s now demolished Majestic Theatre in the background.

The film will be shown on TCM cable channel Oct. 2, 2008. The film has also recently been shown on the MGMHD movie channel for those of you with Dish TV.

    New Pink Panther promo

Once again, which historic theater is used for the recently made, pre-show request to TURN OFF YOUR CELL PHONES -presently running in most Regal cinemas?

I am referring to a clip comedian Steve Martin’s arrival at a typical old Fox Theatre with a “Scouracized” box office and Terrazzo outer lobby. It’s also an interesting way to plug the latest “Pink Panther” flick. I hope THIS one will be funny!

Is it the Alex Theatre in Glendale, CA?

    Nuart in Primetime TV

The Nuart Theatre was shown during Mondays’s episode of “The Big Bang Theory” on CBS. In this episode, two of the main characters go out to see a Planet of the Apes marathon at the Nuart, very simliar to what is happening right now over at the Ziegfeld Theatre.

The only catch is that the drinks have the AMC logo rather than the Landmark insignia on them. It’s a shame that the show’s creators changed the branding just to avoid lawsuits and such.

Capitol Theatre makes cameo in “Semi-Pro”

FLINT, MI – The new film Semi-Pro includes scenes filmed at the Capitol Theatre, as initially reported last May. The scenes include one of the theater’s front facade indicating that the movie Mother, Jugs and Speed is showing and a scene involving Will Ferrell, playing Flint Tropics owner Jackie Moon, in a dumpster alongside the alley side of the theater talking to Woody Harrelson playing Monix, one of the players on his team. Scenes involving the theater showing a closed circuit telecast of the Mega Bowl did not make the final cut on the film, but it could appear in a future DVD release of the film.

More information can be found in the Flint Journal.
