“Love Actually” Has Premiere at NYC’s Beekman, Actually
NEW YORK, NY — Last Friday’s star-studded premiere of the new British romantic ensemble comedy, “Love Actually”, was held at the historic and stylish Beekman Theatre, on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. Among the film’s stars walking the red carpet were Hugh Grant, Colin Firth, Martine McCutcheon, and Laura Linney. The film, which had a so-so sixth place opening this weekend, was directed (and written) by Richard Curtis, the screenwriter behind two of Grant’s most successful movies, “Notting Hill” and “Bridget Jones”. It was Curtis' directorial debut.

Chicago’s Gateway Theatre Hosts the Polish Film Festival
CHICAGO, IL — The 15th annual Polish Film Festival in America, the world’s largest Polish film event, is currently taking place in Chicago, and running from November 1-16. The three venues hosting the event are the Gateway Theatre, at the Copernicus Center (5216 W. Lawrence Ave.), the Gallery Theatre (1112 N. Milwaukee Ave.) and the Beverly Arts Center (2407 W. 111th St.). The award-winning film festival also will be hosting satellite screenings in cities such as Los Angeles, Seattle, Minneapolis and Boston. The opening gala on November 1st at the Gateway featured the U.S. premiere of the Acadamy Award-nominated director Jerzy Hoffman’s “When the Sun Was God”.

Remaining Ziegfeld Girls Celebrate New Amsterdam’s 100th Anniversary
NEW YORK, NY — According to this article from the Washington Post, two remaining ‘Ziegfeld Girls’ — from the legendary Ziegfeld Follies that performed at the New Amsterdam Theatre from 1913-1927 — were on hand for the theater’s 100th birthday celebration.

Democratic Candidates Debate at Detroit Fox
DETROIT, MI — The nine democratic presidential candidates debated each other onstage at the Fox Theatre in downtown Detroit yesterday. The 90-minute event filled the 3000-plus seat movie palace to overflow capacity. The debate, which followed Sunday morning appearances by various candidates in Detroit-area churches, was co-sponsored by the Fox News Channel and the Congressional Black Caucus.

Embassy Theatre To Light Restored Marquee
LEWISTOWN, PA — The continuing restoration of Lewistown’s historic Embassy Theatre will reach an important milestone on October 16, 2003 when the restored Marquee of a Thousand Lights will be illuminated. The Friends of the Embassy Theatre, Inc. the non-profit group that owns the theatre, will hold a “grand illumination party” in front of the theatre on Monument Square from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm that evening.
