REMINDER: Sid Grauman Event Tonight!
HOLLYWOOD, CA — The Fullerton Historic Theatre Foundation will be hosting noted architectural historian Alfred Willis this evening. Willis will be speaking about “Sid Grauman and the Courtyard Theatres of California.” The event takes place at 7:00pm at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood, located at 6712 Hollywood Boulevard. Admission is free!!!

See Where It All Began — in Chicago!
CHICAGO, IL — Silent Film Returns to the Historic Central Park Theatre!
“Within Our Gates,” the famous 1919 silent film by Oscar Micheaux, will be screened at the historic Central Park Theatre in Chicago on Sunday, February 15, 2004. This will be the first film shown in the theater since 1971. The event begins at 3 p.m. at 3535 W. Roosevelt Road in Chicago’s West Side, Lawndale neighborhood.

Sid Grauman and the Courtyard Theatres Event at the Egyptian
HOLLYWOOD, CA — The Fullerton Historic Theatre Foundation will present noted architectural historian Alfred Willis speaking about “Sid Grauman and the Courtyard Theatres of California.”
FTHF is a non-profit organization raising funds to purchase and restore the Fox Fullerton Theatre which will be featured in the talk along with other Meyer and Holler theaters including the Egyptian and Chinese theaters in Hollywood.

See a Movie at the Historic Central Park Theatre!
CHICAGO, IL — Plans are underway to host “Within Our Gates,” the famous 1919 silent film by Oscar Micheaux, at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 15, at the historic Central Park Theatre, 3535 W. Roosevelt Road, Chicago. This will be the first film to be shown in the theater since 1971.

Silent Classic Screening at Pickwick Theatre to Benefit Des Plaines Theater
PARK RIDGE, IL — According to a Pioneer Local story, Buster Keaton’s silent classic, “The General” is being shown tomorrow, December 13th at 8 PM at the Pickwick Theatre in Park Ridge, accompanied with the Pickwick’s Mighty Wurlitzer organ to benefit the restoration of the Des Plaines Theater.
Both the Pickwick and Des Plaines are former vaudeville houses which later became movie houses, and are both long-time landmarks of the downtowns of neighboring Park Ridge and Des Plaines. The event is presented jointly by the Des Plaines Theater Preservation Society and the Silent Film Society of Chicago.

Information Sought by Paper on Iroquois Fire for Disaster’s Centennial
CHICAGO, IL — To mark the 100th anniversary of one of Chicago’s worst tragedies, the December 30, 1903 blaze at Iroquois Theatre in the Loop, which claimed more than 600 lives, the Pioneer Press Online is seeking information from anyone who might have had stories of the fire handed down to them by relatives who survived or were at the scene in some capacity.

Katharine Hepburn, Cary Grant, and James Stewart in his Academy Award winning performance star in “The Philadelphia Story,” the 1940 sparkling romantic comedy from MGM nominated for 6 Oscars. All tickets include a party after the movie with food, drink and 1940’s music by DJ Jay Schwartz, better known as Secret Cinema.
