    Theater Seats for sale

The seating for sale here was made by the American Seating Co. in 1927 (still in business today!). These seats were top of the line at there time and have been well kept. The cushions are comfortable and in a beautiful shade of emerald green.

A somewhat matching color tape hides tears in the fabric on some of the cushions. Cast iron engraced framwork appear to be rust and corrosion free; painted bloody brown. The end pieces have isle lighting fixtures built in, however, the electrical hardware has not been tested.

Utah Theatre put up for sale

SALT LAKE CITY, UT — After failing to generate interest from numerous avenues, The Utah Theatre is going up for sale with the hope of being scooped up by the city and renovated for performing arts usage.

Rick Howa has given up his goal to build a new performing-arts theater in the mothballed Utah Theatre on Salt Lake City’s Main Street.

After unsuccessfully trying to peddle the playhouse to Salt Lake City and Salt Lake County, Howa late last week hung a large “for sale” sign on the one-time vaudeville theater and subsequent movie house.

For more, read the full story in the Salt Lake Tribune.

    Vintage Box Office Magazine issues

I am looking for a theater historian or someone interested in a large collection of vintage Box Office Magazine issues. I recently acquired them from a relative that used to work at the Belleville Area Cinema and Skyview Drive In in Belleville, IL.

They are in superb condition from the 1960’s. They chronicle the movie and studio news of the times and they have excellent vintage movie advertising in them. I think they would make an excellent collection for a movie historian, vintage movie fan or an individual who owns a restored theater.

They truly are priceless pieces of history and I can’t care for them properly so I hope they find an interested collector.

  • Free Theater Seats

The Fairborn Performing Arts & Cultural Center is giving away its remaining seats. We have approximately 600 American Seating “Bodiform” seats, circa 1948. All seats are in excellent mechanical condition. The fabric is worn and faded. Some seats are mildewed but might be able to be cleaned or re-upholstered. About half of the seats are removed from the floor and are in rows of six and eight.

These seats would make excellent seats for a home theater. Interested parties may call 937-469-1691.

Our charity, the Norwich Community Cinema Foundation, Inc., formed to bring a new not-for-profit arts cinema to downtown Norwich, CT was granted salvage rights to the 800 theater seats and other wonderful architectural elements within the former, once-grand, Masonic Temple of Norwich.

The temple and theater are being torn down to restore a sacred royal Mohegan Indian burial ground that was disturbed to build the temple—thereby righting a past wrong.
