Time Community Theater celebrates five years
OSHKOSH, WI — The 100+ year-old Time Community Theater just celebrated five years back in business. Besides a dedicated community supporting it, presenting classic films has also been a key ingredient in not only bringing in patrons from Oshkosh but from other nearby cities as well.

Angelika goes pop-up
WASHINGTON, DC — The popular art-house chain is venturing into new territory with a pop-up location behind Union Market. Inside a warehouse, they’ll serve unique snacks and craft beer with three screens pumping out indie favorites.

The 900 baht theatre
BANGKOK, THAILAND — The luxury cinema craze has made it to Thailand with the opening of the Embassy Diplomat Screens. Plush, private seats with call buttons and one cinema with a wine cellar are the highlights.

Independent cinemas thrive in England
The Economist posted a piece last week on some success stories of independent theatres in England. The move to digital has actually been great for them with the access to a wider range of programming. By catering to more of an adult audience, they’ve been able to position themselves separately from multiplexes.

Senate Theater Marquee Neon
DETROIT, MI — The neon marquee letters at the Senate Theater are now working. First time in at least 35 years! Drive by to see it and to visit the Senate for a movie or music show.
The new 40x20 ft movie screen was installed in July 2013.

Buffalo’s only downtown cinema to close
BUFFALO, NY — Hinted at six months ago, the Market Arcade Film & Arts Center is set to close tomorrow. The current operators cannot afford to install digital projection. Don’t panic just yet though. There are numerous parties looking to reopen it and the city is weighing its options.

Lido to show more than just movies
NEWPORT BEACH, CA — A new operator is taking over the classic Lido Theatre with plans to do concerts there starting in the Fall. The theme will be 80’s music but they’ll still show films during the week.

Rialto up for sale
SOUTH PASADENA, CA — The long dormant Rialto Theatre is up for sale by the family trust that’s held it for generations. Closed for the last 7 years and a key player in the revitalization of the community, there is hope that a new owner will bring it back to entertaining in some way. While Landmark still holds a lease for 10 years, they don’t anticipate that getting in the way of future plans.
