Capitol Cinemas holds silent auction for digital transition
PRINCETON, KY — Capitol Cinemas needs a new projector and they’ve gotten creative to raise the funds. They’re holding a silent art auction but bidding closes tonight.

Images Cinema gets new marquee
WILLIAMSTOWN, MA — The nearly 100 year-old Images Cinema has received a new marquee after not having one for decades. The lack of one was becoming a driving hazard with drivers going in one direction having to look over their shoulder to see what’s playing. With this and digital projection, the theatre is now better than ever.

Quality 10 GDX Theatres will open January 17, replacing the Saginaw 12
SAGINAW, MI — The Goodrich Quality Theatres chain has announced that their new Quality 16 GDX Theatres will open on January 17. It replaces the adjacent Saginaw 12 which will be town down upon the new state of the art cinema’s completion.

Bellis Fair 6 may close
BELLINGHAM, WA — A mall renovation could lead to the demolition of the Bellis Fair 6 next year. The loss of the discount theatre would leave only a couple local options if it closed.

Bay City 8 building a two-screen addition
BAY CITY, MI — Goodrich Quality Theatres Bay City 8 Theatres in the Bay City Mall is building a two-screen addition which is expected to be open by this summer. The construction is not expected to disrupt activities at the mall.

North Park making a big comeback
BUFFALO, NY — While Buffalo has been having problems saving some treasures others have been more fortunate. The North Park Theatre is reopening and couldn’t be better. The extensive renovation has brought back their dazzling marquee and reveal elements of the auditorium not visible in years. They plan to reopen in late January.

Efforts afoot to revive historic West Tennessee movie theater
BOLIVAR, TN — The Luez Theatre is trying to make a return but it needs a digital projector first. They are holding film screenings in an effort to save the theatre and adapt it to today’s standards.

Orpheum Theatre’s $30 million campaign aims for full, modern renovation
WICHITA, KS — The Orpheum Theatre has announced plans for an ambitious renovation aimed to bring it up to modern standards for a performing arts center. The six-phase project would take two years and update virtually every facet of the space, from backstage to the areas surrounding the building.

Riverdale 10 to close
LITTLE ROCK, AR — After almost 20 years in business, the Riverdale 10 has announced it will close. Carmike initially opened the property but it’s been independently owned for awhile. No reason for the closure has been reported.
