Winchester movie theater closes, to reopen under new management
WINCHESTER, KY — The Movies 9 will reopen under the new management of Malco Theaters. While it’s unclear when they will be back in business, when they do they will have new digital projectors.

Century 21 could become landmark
SAN JOSE, CA — San Jose’s Historic Landmarks Commission is meeting tomorrow to discuss landmarking the Cedntury 21. A dedicated preservation group has been fighting for this for awhile. The 50 year-old dome is still operating despite talks of redevelopment.

Cinema transitions in Michigan’s Saginaw Bay region in 2013
SAGINAW, MI — Looking back at 2013, several theaters in Michigan’s Saginaw Bay region had a year full of transitions.
In Vassar, the 76-year-old Vassar Theatre had a close call. Unable to afford a digital projector on its own, it had a successful Kickstarter campaign which surpassed its goal allowing it to survive.
But in Midland, the Studio M closed in December, unable to afford digital projectors for its screens and suffering declining business.

Early raves for North Park
BUFFALO, NY — Some lucky theatergoers got a sneak peek at the North Park Theatre before it’s grand reopening later this month and the feedback is off the charts. With a restored ceiling and refurbished original concession stand, its fans couldn’t be happier.

Ritz celebrates 75 years
MALVERN, AR — The Ritz turned 75 last month and thankfully plan on many more. They hosted a successful 1930’s-style evening to honor the anniversary where many patrons showed up in period dress.

Gateway Film Center named Columbus' best
COLUMBUS, OH — Columbus Underground has named the Gateway Film Center its top theatre for 2013. The OSU favorite screens a wide variety of films and has a new restaurant opening next year as well.

WESTCHESTER, NY — My personal favorite growing up, the Fine Arts, may be gone but there are still some interesting places to catch an indie flick in Westchester County. With the recent opening of the Alamo Drafthouse, the New York Times featured that theatre along with the Pelham Picture House and the Jacob Burns Film Center. Was your favorite left out?
