Kentucky Theatre to undergo major renovation
LEXINGTON, KY — This is the final weekend to get into the Kentucky Theatre for a while before it closes for a major renovation. They raised over $1 Million through various fundraisers and plan to replace all the seats, upgrade the lighting and restore the marquee. Its neigbhor, the State Theatre, will remain open to play art house fare.

Hardacre group buys Tipton theater
TIPTON, IA — The future is looking brighter for the Hardacre Theatre following a successful fundraising campaign. The Hardacre Theater Preservation Society brought in over $100K so they could purchase the theatre but they still need over a million to make necessary renovations to keep it going. However, the main takeaway is that the public wants the theatre to stay open (and will contribute to make it a reality).

Warner gem faces murky future
HUNTINGTON PARK, CA — The gorgeous Warner Huntington Park, sister theatre to the Warner Grand and Warner Beverly Hills, is in danger. A new owner is in place whose intentions are unclear. The theatre has been dormant since the 1980’s.

Old Forge’s movie theater goes digital
OLD FORGE, NY — It wasn’t easy but the Strand Theatre appears set for years to come after completing a $200,000 digital conversion for all four of its screens. They made great strides in reaching that number through events like a community gala and a go-kart race.

Theatre Historical Society renovations unveiled
ELMHURST, IL — The Chicago Tribune published a piece on the newly revamped Theatre Historical Society. The new research center has space for four staff members (up from only one) and visiting scholars with over a million historical items in the facility. The piece even features some quotes from Cinema Treasures' own Ross Melnick regarding research he conducted at the institution.

Fiske Theatre gets national recognition
OAK GROVE, LA — The nomination hinted at months ago has now become a reality as the Fiske Theatre is now on the National Register of Historic Places. This is the first building in the entire city to reach this designation.

Parkchester community seeks to preserve 74-year-old theater
BRONX, NY — Locals are getting behind reopening the American Theater, which Bow Tie operated until it closed last Fall. They’ve already put together a petition with 1,000+ signatures to reopen it and has also spoken with the Landmark Preservation Commission.

Art project displays Eugene movie theater in a whole new light
EUGENE, OR — The Bijou Metro hasn’t even been opened a year and it’s already getting one significant upgrade. Chris Mini and his wife, artist Mary Hornig, have a created glass ceiling panels to decorate the walkways between theaters. The new art deco touch will be on display for the ArtWalk this Friday.

Olympic Theatre faces final curtain
ARLINGTON, WA — Today could be the final screening at the Olympic Theatre due to their inability to continue without a digital projector. Norma Pappas has owned it and ran it seven days days a week since 1977 but their efforts to secure a future for it have not panned out.
